Blackthorn vs. Bizzabo: Salesforce-native vs. connector

Blackthorn vs. Bizzabo: Salesforce-native vs. connector

Last updated: July 21, 2026. We will revisit this comparison as both platforms evolve.

Blackthorn runs natively inside Salesforce® — same database, same objects, same security model, automatically updated, no sync job in between. Bizzabo is a standalone event platform that connects to Salesforce via a premium add-on for Enterprise or Unlimited editions. It includes 3 hours of consulting time to configure the data mapping.

The biggest difference between the two platforms is how you want to receive your data. Blackthorn lives inside Salesforce so you don’t have to sync reports. Bizzabo, on the other hand, requires a manual sync, on a schedule determined by your admin.  If your team already runs its full workflow on Salesforce, that difference shows up every week, not just at setup. Read on to learn more about this business-critical time lapse.

This guide walks through how each platform actually behaves in practice, what Bizzabo’s documentation says about the connector, what it costs, and who should choose which vendor.

How each platform connects to Salesforce

Blackthorn doesn’t connect to Salesforce — it’s built on it and works directly inside your Salesforce instance. Registrations, sessions, and attendee records are custom Salesforce objects from the moment they’re created. There’s no second database to keep in sync, no mapping to configure, and no sync job to monitor, because there’s only one copy of the data.

The premium add-on integration is a one-way sync from Bizzabo into Salesforce, available only on Salesforce Enterprise and Unlimited editions. At the event level, an admin defines how three Bizzabo objects — Contacts, Tickets, and Events — map to Salesforce Contacts, Leads, and Campaigns, then sets a sync frequency. Bizzabo includes 3 hours of support from a Bizzabo Salesforce consultant to help configure that mapping; any additional consultant help is arranged at an additional cost.

That’s a reasonable setup for a platform built to work independently of Salesforce. It’s also, by definition, one more system for your admin to configure, monitor, and maintain.

How the architecture difference impacts your daily work

Reporting freshness. With Blackthorn, a registration shows up in your Salesforce reports automatically when someone signs up. With Bizzabo, it shows up during a manual sync, on a schedule set by your admin. This often means the data is out-of-date by the time it gets to Salesforce.

What happens when Salesforce fields change. Bizzabo’s documentation notes that during a sync, if a referenced object doesn’t exist in Salesforce, the record won’t be inserted or updated. In practice, that means a renamed field, a changed picklist value, or a deactivated custom object can quietly break part of the mapping, and someone has to notice and fix it. With Blackthorn, there’s no separate mapping to break, because there’s no second system translating one data model into another.

Who owns troubleshooting. When a Bizzabo sync fails, the ticket usually starts with the Salesforce admin, gets escalated to Bizzabo support, and sometimes lands with a paid consultant if it’s outside the included hours.

Admin maintenance burden. Bizzabo gives admins control here: basic, conditional, or full-view mapping options, custom field sync, and default account rules for unmatched contacts. That flexibility is genuinely useful for teams that need it. It’s also configuration surface area that has to be revisited every time an event’s mapping needs change, or every time your Salesforce schema shifts.

Comparing each platform’s strengths

Bizzabo is a genuinely capable platform, and it’s worth saying so plainly. Its native mobile event app, drag-and-drop website builder, and support for large-scale hybrid and virtual programs are real strengths. Bizzabo has been recognized as a Forrester Wave Customer Favorite for all-in-one event platforms, and reviewers on G2 rate it 4.3 out of 5 across more than 400 reviews, with particular praise for its API flexibility and CRM integrations (the latter is a premium add-on).

Where native Salesforce data access tends to win is reporting, personalization, and ownership. Because Blackthorn’s registration and event attendance tracking data are Salesforce records natively, they’re immediately available in the same reports, dashboards, and Campaign Influence models your team already builds for the rest of the business — no waiting on a sync, no separate object model to reconcile against your CRM.

G2 reviewers often cite that Bizzabo can feel rigid outside its default setup, particularly around template and design customization, and more than one reviewer has asked for tighter, more automatic Salesforce syncing. That’s the flip side of a platform built to serve teams that don’t live inside Salesforce full time. It does a lot on its own, but asks you to work within its structure to get there.

For check-in and mobile experience specifically, both platforms hold up at scale; see how mobile event check-in works inside Salesforce if that’s a deciding factor.

How to decide between the platforms

Choose Bizzabo if:

  • Your organization doesn’t use Salesforce or isn’t considering a switch to Salesforce
  • You’re running events where Bizzabo’s built-in production tools and attendee app are the priority
  • You have budget for a dedicated enterprise event platform and the admin capacity to maintain a connector

Choose Blackthorn if:

  • Your team’s whole workflow — sales, marketing, membership, or donor management — already runs on Salesforce
  • You want event data to be a Salesforce record on day one, not a synced copy of one
  • Your Salesforce admin would rather not add another integration to monitor, troubleshoot, and eventually debug
  • You want registration, payments, and reporting to live in the same system as the rest of your org’s data

Neither answer is wrong. If your organization’s system of record is Salesforce and you’re evaluating Bizzabo mainly because it shows up in every “Salesforce event management” search, that’s exactly the signal that a Salesforce-native platform is worth a closer look before you commit to a connector.

Precedent for switching

Consolidating event tooling onto Salesforce isn’t hypothetical. The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) replaced four separate event platforms — Cvent, Fonteva, and Attendify, with Eventbrite migration in progress — with Blackthorn Events running natively on Salesforce. IAB has since run conferences with more than 1,100 attendees and facilitated hundreds of in-app meetup requests, all tied back to a single Contact record. IAB’s experience is a useful reference point for what consolidating a fragmented event stack onto one native platform actually looks like in practice.

Frequently asked questions about Bizzabo vs Blacktorn

Does Bizzabo integrate with Salesforce?

Yes. Bizzabo offers a Salesforce integration as a premium add-on with Enterprise and Unlimited editions. This integration works with Bizzabo Contacts, Tickets, and Events. It’s a one-way sync from Bizzabo to Salesforce, set up with help from a Bizzabo consultant, and runs on a schedule defined by the admin.

What’s the difference between Blackthorn and Bizzabo?

Blackthorn runs natively inside Salesforce, so event and attendee data live in the same database and security model as the rest of your org, with no sync involved. Bizzabo is a standalone event platform that connects to Salesforce through a connector, syncing Contacts, Tickets, and Events into your org on a schedule.

What is a Salesforce-native event management platform?

A Salesforce-native platform is one built directly on the Salesforce data model, meaning event, registration, and attendee records are Salesforce objects from the moment they’re created rather than data synced in from an external system. Blackthorn Events is an example of this approach.

Is Blackthorn built on Salesforce?

Yes. Blackthorn Events runs entirely within Salesforce, using standard and custom Salesforce objects rather than a separate database that syncs data over. That means no middleware, no sync schedule, and no risk of a mapping breaking when your Salesforce schema changes.

What are the best Bizzabo alternatives for Salesforce users?

For teams whose core workflow already runs on Salesforce, Blackthorn is a leading alternative to Bizzabo because it eliminates the sync layer entirely — registration and attendance data are native Salesforce records rather than a mapped copy from a separate system.
